Why
the association is it called that way, Tio Antonio (uncle
Antonio)?
When we started with our blog,
it was going to be named Innocent Voices, name taken from
the excellent movie Innocent Voices. But our dear friend
Jorge, our beloved kid, said no, he wanted the name Tio
Antonio.
Tio Antonio is how the kids we help call me, and welcome;
otherwise I would be called Mr. Antonio. For them I
am the Tio (uncle) they welcome cheerfully when I appear
from some lost road, busy street or school. I am the
Tio they pray God to care, though they know i´m
not a religious person. But I thank their gesture, and
explain them, when they grow, that I´m not as
“Magic” as they think I am. That the real
“Magicians” are the “tios” that
hep them from other parts of the world.

Director de Tío Antonio
Who manages Tio Antonio ?
The Directors of Tio Antonio are Fernando Goy, who
is also president of the Organization; and Antonio Prieto,
who manages the activities of the Social Centre in the
city of Granada, Nicaragua.
How many members Tio Antonio has
got?
In august 2008, 41 members are
a part of Tio Antonio; every member collaborating to
its economic support, according to their personal possibilities.
Where do you get the money from
?
The Organization finances thanks to the contribution
of their members, who give a monthly and voluntary amount;
and thanks to the private donations from individual
collaborators. In the next future we hope to count on
public finance for specific projects. More details here.
Is it a legal organization ?
Yes, of course. Social Centre Tio Antonio Nicaragua
is legally registered in Spain as a Non lucrative Entity
(NGO), at the Department of Interior with the number
589789. We are actually in a legalization process in
Nicaragua.
May I go to Nicaragua to wok with
you?
Yes, though due to our small size, we are not capable
to count with a great number of volunteers in a continuous
way. All the information here.
How many people are you helping
there?
It’s difficult to know the exact number. We actually
have about 50 kids with scholarship; we help different
families continuously; and during the first 6 months
in 2008 more than 500 persons have benefited from our
free pharmacy. However, the exact number is hard to
specify. For example, to help a mother means helping
her sons and family as well. We care about the quality
of the help we give to a person as much as the number
of people helped. And we try that help to have a lasting
and positive effect in their quality of life.
How can I collaborate with you?
You can become a member and donate a monthly contribution,
there’s no minimum quantity. You can also work
from your country, helping us in different areas. Or
you can make a monetary or material donation. Or give
your help to some of the specific projects we actually
carry on. Visit the section How
To Help for more detailed information. Any kind
of help is welcome.
How do I know the help I give you
is really going to get to the people?
This is a very important aspect for us, since we always
demand the most transparency from our activity; and
that all the work we do come to you, the ones who really
are helping. That’s why we struggle to make available
to members, collaborators and donators the result of
their help, for them to see how their contribution get
to the people and improve their lives. We struggle to
make our accounts and finances as clear and accessible
as possible; to make our activity transparent and direct.
We have hope that thanks to this website, our blog
and our direct contact we are doing right.
What ideology do you have?
We doesn’t defend any political or religious
ideas. Our ideology is the active, pacific and direct
fight against poverty and misery; and against their
causes as well.
Do you work for the Government of
Nicaragua?
No, we don’t work for any private or public institution,
we are independent. Logically, in our daily work we
collaborate with all those administrations needed to
get our objectives.
How long have you been working there?
The Social Centre has been working in Granada since
2007.
