Public Health in Nicaragua is very deficient (see inform)
Our Health Program struggles to alleviate some of those
deficiencies, trying to ease poor people health situation.
To do that we have a Pharmacy that gives freely medicines
– with prescription from a doctor – and
in a few weeks we hope to open a medical practice, which
will be primarily directed to women and children.
We also take care of the medical treatment of different
kids, whose are helped with the very expensive costs
of medical tests and examinations. We also have an attention
program for the Granada prison convicts, whom we have
helped with periodic medicines deliveries.
Along this two years of activity, we have done various
help contributions in emergency cases; when people in
need of specialized medical attention came to us searching
for help. We paid for the costs of those interventions.
Pharmacy
In our Social Centre in Granada we have a Free Pharmacy,
where we deliver all kind of medicines, always with
a doctor prescription. A great group of population don´t
have access to medicines and medical tests due to its
high cost. That explains why so many people don´t
go to the doctor and take medicines by themselves, which
is always dangerous. Moreover, due to high cost of these
medicines for the needy people, many of them buy cheap
“miraculous pills” which are supposed to
cure everything.
Our free pharmacy also gives baby
milk. Due to the poor diet that affects so many mothers,
their babies also suffer from malnutrition, lacking
from vitamins and nutrients they don´t take with
the maternal milk. That’s why Baby Milk is so
important. And that´s the reason why we´re
always in need for this product, so we always ask for
baby milk donations. Baby

Work Done
- Medicines supplies to Granada Prison after
meeting with the Director and the Doctor. In a prison
saturated with too many people, there are a lot of
skin and parasitic infections, besides other health
problems.
- Medicines supplies to San Vicente de Paul
School, with 21 hearing deficients, Down´s syndrome,
autistics, etc
- Financing of the cost of Medical Tests and
long-lasting treatments to 15 kids, one of them Alejandro.
A boy who – as a result of a tree fall at 16
years of age – broke his spine and ended paralytic.
Though he was declared hopeless, from some months
ago he began to walk with the help of a baby walker.
And he has the assistance of a physiotherapist.
- Attention of various medical emergencies.
Projects
- Continue with financing the treatment of the
kids we presently help.
- Financing Agustín´s treatment,
a 5 years old kid who was infected during a simple
operation ending up blind.
- Financing of audiometries to the 21 kids at
San Vicente de Paul School. The cost of each hearing
test is about 25$ and it is essential to know what
treatment each kid needs. We actually have the funds
to finance those tests ( thanks to a donation by offie
nº 2812 of La Caixa Bank ) but we have a logistic
problem, since it is not easy to move thus kids and
their families to the Capital Managua to make those
audiometries.Financing of treatments of kids with
mental disability, which use to be very long.
- An statistic report of medicines supplies,
to make the next ones more efficient and adjusted
to present needs.
- Due to the high cost of the Speech Terapist,
we´re trying to get an Spanish professional;
for a period of time at least 3 months, in order to
treat the kids and teach Nicaraguan professionals.
- Periodic deliveries from Spain of medicines,
to keep our free pharmacy open.
- Educate people in good hygienic uses, to decrease
infections.
- Help in new medical emergencies: treatments,
operations, plasma, etc
